Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Shop Mechanic - Kansas City, MO

  • Shift: 1st shift
  • Location: Kansas City, MO
  • Pay: $25-$33/hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain clear department communication to support workflow and service labor growth
  • Utilize computer systems and John Deere communication tools
  • Accurately record service hours, mileage, and timecard entries
  • Participate in ongoing training and development
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain and manage personal tool inventory
  • Perform diagnostics and identify required repairs
  • Communicate parts needs to the Service Manager
  • Repair or replace damaged and worn components
  • Test equipment post-repair to ensure proper operation and compliance
  • Complete work orders, reports, and documentation, including root cause of failures
  • Process warranty documentation
  • Maintain company vehicles, shop equipment, and tools
  • Stay current on company and competitor products
  • Read and interpret operating manuals, electrical, and hydraulic schematics
  • Deliver parts and run errands as needed
  • Support additional tasks assigned by management in alignment with company objectives

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of heavy construction equipment repair methods, tools, and materials
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and implement solutions
  • Proficient in operating diagnostic equipment and vehicles
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer systems
  • Effective communication skills with customers and team members
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and schedules
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and procedures

Physical Requirements & Work Schedule

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs occasionally
  • Prolonged standing and use of hands/tools in confined areas
  • Ability to operate vibrating tools for extended periods
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical certificate (1-year program) OR
  • Experience working on heavy equipment
